Even distribution of force during biting is an important aspect of oral health. Misalignments of the teeth and jaws can affect both the hard and soft tissues of the head, neck, and even your shoulders, causing physical symptoms that can negatively impact your life.

Often, these symptoms can be attributed to TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome), also referred to as TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). TMJ disorders often cause discomfort in the cheek, jaw, or ear areas and can affect normal jaw function. Our doctors may be able to help you reduce these symptoms through the use of neuromuscular dentistry. 

At your visit, we will review your symptoms and answer any questions you may have about neuromuscular treatment. During your examination, your doctor will examine your bite and jaw interaction and  will collect detailed measurements for your head and neck muscles when they are in a state of relaxation. Using all of this information, we will create a treatment plan that will work to reposition your jaw to help relax the muscles and redistribute its force for a more balanced bite.

Custom oral appliances such as splints or mouth guards can be used to relieve headaches and to reduce movement of teeth that have become loose as a result of repeated tooth grinding.
